Impresionante. Emocionante. Escucharle fué una sensación incomparable. Es una gran persona.

Its hard to believe such an extrodinary event took place over 30 years ago. I read the book as a teenager and saw the movie numerous times. I cried on all occasions, not just for those who parished, but for the ending, the RESCUE! Tears of joy! I could never have imagined such a triumph of survival! God Bless You!

Grazie. I think a few people knows which is the highest meaning of the word Humanity. You gave to humanity the highest dignity ever. I apprechate you for this and youll remain an example for all who will have the possibility of knowing your story. Thanks.

I was born in April of 1973 and had never heard of this tragedy and story of survival until the 1993 film depicting the events. I just wanted to say God continue to bless each and everyone of you and I know you would have gladly never experienced such a horrific event to become inspirations, but you all truly are.

In 1973, at the age of 14 years, I was a ward of the courts due to getting into trouble with the law. To make it difficult to escape from the authorities, a group of 20 teens, myself included are taken into the mountains of BC and Alberta, Canada on 10 day walk to a camp called Envioros on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. This 10 day trip is designed to hide any evidence of where you are, lessening the will to escape. During this trip, we entered a valley and began to climb, finally reaching a point where the snow line begins. At this point, we had to use snow shoes made of goats gut webbing and within a few hours each pair of snowshoes began to fail, leaving many in chest deep snow. At the top of the pass, well above snow line the group became stretched out as daylight was fading fast. My snowshoes lasted a bite longer than most however, by the time I had reached the pass my shoes were destroyed. With some 20, 14 year-olds stretched out over a mile of chest deep snow, well above tree line, it became every man for himself. Some were caught at dusk clinging to a rock face at the other side of the pass, while others were stuck in the pass itself. In attempts to get down below tree line before dark, I found myself clinging to a rock face at dusk. Others were trapped in the pass while some had made it down the other side to a lone group of pine trees, which was the only place of shelter as darkness fell. With the onset of darkness and becoming every weaker on the rock face, I thru my knapsack down the cliff and with the only available light left, I could just barely see my nap sack hit the snow. I could no longer cling to the rocks as my hands were cold and weak and so, with a leap of faith, I just leaped. I seem to fall forever and then ka-pow. I hit the snow at the bottom of the cliff. I made it with no injury. Some 300 yards directly to the west lay the lone stand of pine trees. So I started to crawl in that direction. It took some 3 hours to make this 300 yard stretch of chest deep snow, but I did make it. When I got there I found 3 others who had also jumped off the cliff. With only a thin sheet a plastic and a wet sleeping bag, I survived the night. In the morning, the rest of our group made it down from the pass. I will never forget how good the hot orange juice I drank that morning, it tasted so good. On the 30th anniversary of El Accident de Los Andes, I feel I had a small taste of what these young people went through in the Andes and I can relate. When I jumped into the night off that cliff, I thought I was going to die and then I thought I was going to freeze to death. With that said, I wish all survivors a happy 30th anniversary of the celebration life, a celebration of family. God bless. Robert S Milot
